Designed by model maker Alex and her partner Phil, a climbing instructor, Boot Bananas were born out of their battle to banish the stink of Phil’s smelly shoes for good.
DTS have tested these out on smelly skate boots and they work a treat!
Freshen Up Place in footwear, gloves or funky spaces to remove day-to-day odour and moisture. Regular use helps prevent bad smells building up. Lightweight design for travel. Useful toggle for hanging together.
Earth Friendly The activated coconut charcoal single ingredient makes these Boot Bananas super sustainable. The entire banana is home compostable (yes, really the whole thing) and uses Oeko-tex® certified dyes & inks.
Banana Care Dry your Boot Bananas out in the sun – or near a radiator – and avoid excessive moisture exposure. Only intended for removing odour and sweat. Not for drying wet footwear.
Ripeness Indicator These Boot Bananas may gradually discolour or ‘ripen’ with time as the natural fibre fabric banana ‘skins’ break down. Replace when they stop preventing odour. Approximately 12 months, depending on use.
Recycle Me Take this packaging to supermarkets or retailers with a collection point for flexible plastic packaging & carrier bags.
WARNING: This product is for functional use only and is not a toy. Not suitable for children under 3. Non edible. Please retain information for future use.
Made in Sri Lanka.
Ingredients:
(sadly these don't smell like bananas. They have a lavendery smell)
Bamboo Charcoal:
Bamboo charcoal is an amazingly absorptive material due to its very porous structure which gives it a huge surface area. A highly effective odor absorber. Bamboo charcoal is used to control humidity and eliminate odors, moisture is locked in and dry air released. The porous substance is also excellent at filtering impurities in water and can be used to remove chlorine after sterilization. This material has been traditionally produced in China & Japan and documented as early as 1486 AD. Other uses for the powder form have claims for teeth whitening and even as a detox when taken with water, although we have not tried either of these ourselves.
Baking Soda:
Good old fashioned baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate is another of the wonder ingredients that has a list of applications, ancient Egyptians used it as a form of soap through to cleansing & cleaning in the home up to the present day. This salt is used in cooking as a leavening agent and in the preservation of food, sodium bicarbonate is also an efficient odor absorber.
Zeolite:
Zeolite is formed as a mineral under volcanic conditions and mined on a large scale in many parts of the world. This material is also incredibly good at adsorption and has a wide range of applications from deodorizing in cat litter to purifying water, it is used in the production of many laundry detergents and even in preparation of advanced materials and in nuclear reprocessing. After the Fukushima Nuclear disaster in 2011, sandbags of zeolite were dropped into the seawater near the power plant to adsorb radioactive caesium which was present in high levels. Zeolite also has many other uses such as in construction and the medical sector, too many to list.
Tea Tree Oil:
Tea tree oil is well know for its use as a traditional herbal medicine. Recent studies support a role for the topical application of tea tree oil in skin care and for the treatment of various diseases and conditions. Tea tree oil appears to be effective against bacteria, viruses, fungal infections, mites & lice.
Lavender Oil:
Advocates of alternative medicine claim that lavender oil can be used as an antiseptic and topical anaesthetic. Lavender also has relaxing properties when used in aromatherapy.
Lemon Oil:
Lemon oil is said to have antibacterial properties as well as a lovely fresh scent.
Background:
''We’d just moved into our first flat together and the smell of Phil’s climbing shoes had become a problem he could no longer hide. We tried everything on the market to deodorise them but nothing was up to the challenge. So, putting our best feet forward, we decided to fight the funk ourselves.
Wanting to avoid any synthetic chemicals, we perfected our own powerful blend of naturally deodorising salts and minerals. Alex got to work designing the optimum shoe-friendly shape, and when combining this with yellow fabric, had her ‘light bulb moment’ and Boot Bananas were born. Once Phil’s fruity-footed climbing friends had rigorously tested the Bananas, our little South London flat became a hub of lavender-infused activity.''
